We study how

reactive oxidants (e.g. hydrogen peroxide) are generated in biological systems

how they are involved in iron regulation, iron toxicity

and the oxidative metabolism of peroxisomes

and how these processes modulate gene expression and cellular functions.

Our long term clinical goal is to better understand oxidative mechanisms in liver damage (e.g. during chronic alcohol abuse, fatty liver, steatosis hepatitis, drug-induced hepatotoxicity and hemochromatosis).
