Methods And Experimental Models

A recurring theme of my work has been the development of quantitative methods and experimental models that reproduce biologically relevant conditions more accurately.

The hypochlorite–luminol assay detects hydrogen peroxide at nanomolar concentrations and permits real-time enzyme kinetic studies. Building on this approach, the GOX/CAT system independently controls steady-state hydrogen peroxide and oxygen concentrations in cell culture, allowing rapid and reproducible simulation of inflammatory oxidative stress and hypoxia.

Additional methodological work includes liver-homing glucose oxidase as an in vivo model of hepatic oxidative stress, transient micro-elastography in small animals, room-temperature susceptometry for hepatic iron and multiparametric imaging of liver fat and iron.
